Since the discovery of
the natural gas fields in the 80’s, different development
options have been studied, verifying the technical/economic
feasibility of an initial exploitation project of Natural
Gas including the transportation of dry gas and Natural
Gas liquid to the Central Coast of Peru.
The export of the Camisea
Natural Gas appears as a feasible option to be carried out,
but requires further studies and time needed for its development.
It is estimated that the
execution of such hydrocarbon supply project for the domestic
market will require the construction of a large production
and marketing infrastructure. Thus, besides the facilities
required for the field exploitation, facilities for transportation,
processing, distribution and marketing of Camisea Hydrocarbons
should be built.
During May 1999 –
December 2000, the Commission for the Private Investment
Promotion (COPRI) carried out, through the Special Committee
of Camisea Project (CECAM), the drawing up, calling and
execution of two International Public Biddings for the Camisea
Project development. The plan designed for the project development
comprised two modules, which were offered as integral projects,
it means, the parameters to be fulfilled were determined,
and the decision and flexibility to choose the technical
details of design, construction and operation were in charge
of the investors, in compliance with the effective standards
in Peru. There are two modules, the first one is for the
exploitation of Camisea Gas fields and the second one is
for the transportation of gas and gas liquids from Camisea
to the Coast and the gas Supply in Lima and Callao.
