The exploration conducted
by SHELL in a 2 million hectares Lot, in the Ucayali Basin,
during 1981 – 1987, through the execution of 3,000
kilometers of seismic lines and the drilling of 5 exploration
wells, allowed the discovery of two non- associated Natural
Gas fields in the Camisea area. These fields were called
San Martín and Cashiriari.
These fields are located
in a rain forest region know as Bajo Urubamba and they are
part of the Echarate district, province of La Convención,
department of Cusco.
During a second exploration
campaign conducted by the Shell/Mobil consortium in 1996-1988,
3 evaluation wells were drilled and the studies required
were carried out to develop an exploitation and marketing
project of Camisea Gas.
